Assamese laborer killed in an accident while going to Jadcherla when he ran out of money

A 31-year-old laborer from Assam was killed in an accident on National Highway-44 near Madanapalli Pata Thanda in Shamshabad on Friday evening.

The deceased has been identified as Arjun Bhumij, a resident of Kathal Guni in Sonitpur district of Assam. According to police, the incident came to light on Friday (July 24) through a Dial 100 call at around 5.40pm after which a Shamshabad police patrol rushed to the spot and found the victim lying on the road with serious injuries.

Investigation revealed that Arjun Bhumij had left Assam five days ago to travel to Jadcherla in search of work. He reached Hyderabad’s Kacheguda railway station on 23 July. After exhausting his money, he allegedly started walking towards Jadcherla.

Police said he was hit by an unidentified vehicle traveling at high speed in the same direction while crossing NH-44 near Madanapalli Pata Thanda turn towards Shadnagar on July 24 around 5.30 pm. The driver fled the scene without stopping.

Arjun sustained fatal injuries and died on the spot. His body was taken to Osmania General Hospital mortuary for postmortem.

The case has been registered and efforts are underway to identify the perpetrator and track down his driver. Further investigation is underway.
