ASR District: Police SI found with gunshot wound at station after texting senior citizen about personal issues

An Armed Reserve Sub-Inspector of the Andhra Pradesh Special Police (APSP) was found with a gunshot wound at Dumbriguda Police Station in Alluri Sitharama Raju District (ASR) on Monday (September 14, 2026). Police are investigating the circumstances, including whether he shot himself.

According to sources, the station staff were praying for Vinayaka Chavithi when they heard the gunshot. They reached him and found him injured.

He was taken to Araku Valley District Hospital and due to the severity of his condition, he was referred to a private hospital in Visakhapatnam where he is undergoing treatment.

Sources said that Mr. Satyanarayana had sent a message to a senior police officer shortly before the incident, referring to the problems he was facing in his personal life. The senior officer is understood to have responded by asking him not to make any rash decisions and assuring him that he would speak to his family and help resolve the issue. However, shortly after sending the message, the sub-inspector was injured.
