Asian Para Games 2026 closing ceremony Live Updates: India bowed out of the 2026 Asian Para Games in Aichi-Nagoya with a landmark performance, finishing fourth in the final medal tally for its best-ever finish in a continental para sport. The Indian contingent collected a record 114 medals, including 30 gold, 35 silver and 49 bronze, bettering their previous best of 108 medals at the 2022 edition in Hangzhou.
The final day’s competition kept India’s position under scrutiny, with South Korea hoping to close the gap and move up the standings. South Korea won three more medals on Saturday but only managed one gold to finish with 29 gold medals and 100 medals overall. This saw India retain fourth place and Iran finished sixth.
China led the medal table by a significant margin, collecting 435 medals, including 217 gold. Hosts Japan finished second with 186 medals, including 64 gold, 60 silver and 62 bronze, while Uzbekistan claimed third place with 145 medals, including 45 gold. South Korea, Iran, Thailand, Indonesia, Kazakhstan and Saudi Arabia completed the top 10.
India’s campaign was marked by record performances, historic victories and podium finishes in various disciplines. Athletics played a big role in the medal rush, badminton, archery and shooting also contributed significantly to the total.
The achievement stands out as India competed with a contingent of 168 para-athletes, significantly less than the 309 athletes who represented the country in Hangzhou. A record medal haul and fourth place is a new benchmark for Indian para sports as the Aichi-Nagoya Games conclude with the closing ceremony.
