Shreyas Iyer and Yashasvi Jaiswal (x)
Squad for the Asian Cup was announced by Captain Suryakumar Yadav and chairman of the selection committee for the elderly Ajit Agarkar. The announcement came with several surprises because some big names were omitted from the team:1. Shreyas Iyerwho last played T20i for India against Australia in 2023 was not in the immediate scheme of things. In the way he played this year’s IPL, many expected to return. He won 604 runs on average 50.33 and a strike of 175, which led his team to the finals.2. Yashasvi Jaiswal was another remarkable omission. He was considered a strong candidate for the opening slot and was part of the last Indian T20 World Cup team as a reserve opener. Jaiswal had an impressive IPL season and ended up as the highest shooter Rajasthan Royals with 559 runs on average 43.00 and a strike 159.71.3. Washington Sundar, a versatile, who was considered a crucial possibility with his off-spin, also missed. He recently impressed the test series against England, which surprised his exclusion.4. Prasidh Krishna, who performed in the test series against England and was held by the purple cap this year’s IPL with 25 goals out of 15 matches, was also omitted from the team.5.
