In the first Indian railway, Central Railway installed Mumbai – Manmad Panchavati Express Automated Teller machine (ATM) to increase passengers’ comfort during travel, reported PTI.
In particular, the Minister of Railway Union Ashwini Vaishnaw emphasized the initiative by sharing video on his official X account on Wednesday. The shots represented a passenger who showed an ATM and claimed that it was a Maharashtra machine while on board a moving train.
According to PTI, the railway officials confirmed that the ATM was mounted in an air -conditioned car trainer for the Daily Express. It is expected to be available soon for the use of passengers.
“This ATM was installed on board Panchavati Express purely on an experimental basis,” said Swapnil Nila, the main reference for public contact, Central Railway.
The machine was placed in a specified cabin towards the rear end of the coach – a space that previously functioned as a temporary pantry. During the train journey, the shutter door was added to ensure safety and easy access, the officials said.
The necessary structural adjustments for the installation customization were made at the Railway Workshop Manmad.
Panchavati Express, which runs daily between the CHhatApati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) in Mumbai and Manmad Junction in the Nashik district, covers a distance of approximately four hours and 35 minutes. Thanks to its suitable schedule, it is one of the most advantageous trains on this intermediate route.
If the pilot project proved to be successful, this could lead to the introduction of similar on -board banking facilities across other popular rail services in the country.
