The Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHA) will stage an agitation outside the Suvarna Soudha building in Belagavi on December 10 in an attempt to fulfill the assurance given by the state government to increase their honorarium.
D. Nagalaxmi, state secretary of the Karnataka Rajya Samyukta Asha Karyakarteyara Sangha, announced the proposed protest during a general meeting of the association’s district unit in Haveri on Wednesday.
Addressing a general meeting held at the Municipal Garden in Haveri, Nagalaxmi said that from 2008 to 2009, ASHAs, whose number has now increased to 42,000 in the state, have served the people of urban and rural areas by taking the benefits of government schemes to their doorsteps.
“However, despite repeated memoranda and statements, the honorarium of ₹10,000 promised to them after the protest at Bengaluru’s Freedom Park in January 2025 has not reached ASHA. Even after 11 months, the assurance remains on paper,” she said.
Besides, even the increased incentive of ₹1,500 from the Union government was not released to the health workers, she claimed.
District unit working president Gangadhar Badiger said that the ASHA should get an honorarium of ₹15,000 per month including an incentive from the Union government and an honorarium from the state government.
District Chairperson Jayasheela Bankapurmath urged the government to continue the services of ASHA facilitators with adequate remuneration and the increased honorarium of last year should be released to them immediately. Various officials of the district office were present.
