The endless day and night agitation launched by Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs), midday workers and anganwadi workers seeking regularization of their services and pressing for their various demands, which began on Monday, was suspended on Tuesday evening following concrete assurances from state and central ministers.
On Monday, hundreds of ASHA, mid-day meal and anganwadi workers from Vijayapura, Bagalkot, Belagavi, Gadag, Haveri, Dharwad and Uttara Kannada districts gathered at Chitaguppi Park next to Union Minister Pralhad Joshi’s office in Hubballi and launched an indefinite protest.
General Secretary Akshara Dasoha Noukarara Sangha Malini Mesta, CITU State Secretary Mahesh Pattar, State Vice President of Anganwadi Workers Association Yamuna Gaonkar, Farmer Leader BS Soppin, Basavaraj Korimath of Advocates Association and others addressed the protesters and demanded that their various demands be met.
And since the meeting with the representatives of the organizations in Mr. Joshi’s office did not bring any positive result, the protesters spent the night in the open air.
On Tuesday, the protesters continued their agitation and warned of intensifying the agitation unless the governments there respond positively.
In a subsequent development, Mr. Joshi spoke to representatives of the protesters through video call and asked them to come to Delhi for a dialogue, assuring that their demands would be considered.
Meanwhile, state officials also asked the protesters to end their agitation, assuring that they would consider their demands.
Following these assurances, the protesters decided to call off the agitation on Tuesday evening and send their representatives to hold discussions with the Union ministers, Mr. Pattar told The Hindu over phone.
