
New Delhi, 23 June (PTI), ASEAN nations by stone procedure on the ongoing negotiations on the review of the existing free trade agreement in goods signed in 2009 and the interviews are “very” slowly, the official said on Monday.
The Review of the Agreement is a long -term demand for Indian industry, and India is looking forward to an upgraded pact that will deal with current asymmetries in bilateral trade and will be more commercial and more sustainable.
“Nine rounds of interviews have been completed so far. They go very slowly. There is very less progress.
After the introduction of the agreement, Indian exports were only about $ 38-39 billion per year, while imports from the 10-area ASEAN block jumped to $ 86 billion, the official added.
ASEAN Country for India has opened a smaller number of customs or product categories. India offered concessions to more than 71 % of the Lines to ASEAN countries.
ASEAN members include Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
Indonesia opened 41 % of its customs lines, Vietnam 66.5 % and Thailand 67 %.
“It’s a good agreement,” the official thought.
The official added that the Indian industry is not satisfied with the agreement at all.
In 2009, the free trade agreement between India and the 10-field Bloc ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asia) was signed.
The ASEAN commercial agreement came into force in January 2010. In August 2023, both parties announced a complete review of the existing goods agreement by 2025.
As a group, as a group, is one of the main business partners with about 11 % of the global trade in the country.
India requires a review to remove barriers and abuse of the contract.
Recently in India Global Forum (IGF) meeting at scientific, technological and innovative cooperation in the UK, India at the Scientific Museum of London, Trade and Minister of Industry Piyush Goyal said, “It was time 15 years ago when we focused on my competition.
“I opened my market so effectively and indirectly to find the way from China to India,” the Minister of Trade said.
