Asaduddin Owaisi criticizes the weak intelligence of the Hyderabad Police after the incidents in the community

The Telangana government and senior police officers need to think about why there have been repeated communal incidents aimed at creating riots in Hyderabad, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president Asaduddin Owaisi said, alleging that the city’s police intelligence network is weak.

An MP from Hyderabad told the media that there has been a pattern in the last three or four years where several such incidents have been reported at night. He warned that communal forces must not be given any opportunity to take advantage of such situations. He said Hyderabad is a national brand and a growing economic hub, with the government planning a city of the future. “Such incidents should not happen,” he said, stressing that law and order is not a political issue but directly affects the safety of ordinary citizens.

Referring to the recent incident that led to the lathi charge by the police, Mr. Owaisi said several innocent people were injured, including those who were merely crossing the road or heading for social events. He argued that effective policing was about prevention and called for a system that could avert such situations rather than reacting after the fact.

Responding to a question about the Telangana government seeking to restore the 50-acre land allotted to Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU), he said his party would oppose any attempt to divert the university land to private entities for development, saying the land allotted to the university must remain with it.

Mr. Owaisi warned the MANUU administration against diluting its Urdu mandate in favor of English, saying the university was established by law specifically to promote Urdu and must remain true to that purpose. Responding to criticism of the AIMIM’s alleged inaction in protecting the land allotted to the university, he recalled that when the UPA was in power, it allowed the MANUU school to open in Farooqnagar. He also mentioned the construction of a building worth ₹8 crore on the police land with the permission of the then united Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Rajasekhar Reddy. He urged the public to go through the parliamentary records and see for themselves how Mr. Owaisi supported the MANUU cause.

“Recently, in the last session of Parliament, I spoke about Urdu and emphasized the need to strengthen MANUU,” he said.
