The significant difference in the number of voters in existing election roles and local elections to local bodies 2020 is expected to decrease as soon as the revision of the role before the elections by 2025, the state election commissioner A. Shajahan said.
To date, the roles include 2,66,78 256 voters, which is actually 9.8 Lakh less voters than in roles used for local elections in bodies 2020 (2 76 59 072 voters).
Shajahan, which concerns the media workshop here on Monday, said the Commission is expecting a significant increase in the number of voters as soon as the summary revision that will start this week is completed. The Commission plans to issue a proposal for election roles on Wednesday before revision.

The higher number in 2020 attributed the list of voters 2020 to the active registration procedure in common in the preparation of the general elections to local authorities. In lean periods between two elections, it focuses on the revision of election cylinders rather on cleaning the lists by removing the names of absence, shift and deceased voters, he said.
In 2023 and 2024, the Commission organized a summary revision of electoral roles, which set the number of voters at 2,68,51,297 and 2,66,75 157. Also in five years from the elections to 2020, the Commission organized 375 orders to local authorities that required role updates in these local bodies.
