Journalists who died in the Gaza War painted a grim image of the humanitarian crisis that took place in the region before their eyes with tireless strokes from Israel. Obstiated, as they saw the crisis developed before them, described first -hand descriptions of widespread death and starvation, hospitals pushed over capacity, and countless Palestinians collapsed from heavy hunger while they were in the air.
According to the Committee on the Protection of Journalists, nearly 200 journalists, including 28-year-old Anase Al-Shaarif, died in the Gaza War. Correspondent Anas Al-Sharif was killed when a tent for journalists outside the main gate of Al-Shifa in Gaza hit Israel. He reported extensively at the Gaza War.
“Slow death”
In the attack were also killed by correspondent Mohammed Qreiqhe, Cameraman Ibrahim Zahr, Cameraman Moamen Aliwa and their assistant Mohammed Noufal.
Anas al-Shaarif broke into tears after a woman from heavy hunger collapsed behind him. But he refused to leave the city. “I’m talking about the slow death of these people,” he said.
Raed Fakih, who knew Anase al-Shaariff and worked with him, said in one of his last calls, Anas spoke of starvation in Gaza and how difficult it was to live without food every day.
“He felt he had no choice but to intensify the voice of the Gazans. He lived the same problems that now live, suffering from famine, mourning loved ones. His father was killed in Israeli bombing. In this way he was told like all gazans,” the BBC said.
“How can one group decide to kill another?”
Another Ismail Abu Hatab (32) journalist was killed in an Israeli air strike at the Al-Bauqa City Café in Gaza City. A few months before his death, serious injuries suffered from his foot when his office was hit.
Ismail Abu Hatab describes the horrors in Gaza and said he witnessed countless deaths and wondered how one group of people could decide on the fate of another.
“I saw so much death. Mass Graves and the last farewell, these things deeply influence me. How can one group of people decide on the fate of another and kill them in this way?” Said.
“Every day the battle of survival”
Hossam Shabat, who reported from Gaza City, left a report to be published if he was killed in Israeli air strikes. His team published his message on the social media after his death.
It read: “If you read it, it means that I was killed – most likely – Israeli occupy forces. In the last 18 months….
“There was a battle for survival every day. I hung the moon, but I never left my people’s side.”
