Here’s what Sheikh Hasina said in an open letter
This is an open letter of honorary, hardworking and patriotic people in Bangladesh.
A year ago, our nation witnessed the violent interruption of our hard -fighting democracy, because the undeveloped regime confiscated power by unconstitutional means. It was a dark moment in our history, an insult to the will of people and a betrayal of trust between citizens and the state.
Although they may have taken power, they never take our spirit, our determination or our destiny. I can assure you about it. Also read | Bangladeshi protest: As Hasina flees, protesting the prey raw fish, chicken, duck and dior suitcase of ganabhaban
Given the injustice and repression, I have witnessed extraordinary courage from you, the people of Bangladesh. You refused to be silenced. You have stood up for democracy, freedom and we all deserve for the future. I am constantly inspired by your courage and your love for our country.
Although he tested us this year, he also revealed an unbreakable bond between our people and the values of democracy. We were troubled, but in this suffering we found unity and purpose.
Never forget that strength belongs to people and no regime can forever suppress the will of the nation. Our fight is not over, but our cause is fair.
We must continue to stand for justice, for economic opportunities, for education, peace and for a nation where no one lives in fear. Together we will rebuild what was broken. Together we will get back the institutions that have been taken away from us. And together we write a new chapter that is not defined not by oppression, but hope, progress and freedom.
Let this anniversary is not a day of retrospection, but tomorrow’s cry for clearer. Bangladesh has previously overcame the adversity and we will get up again, stronger, more united and more determined to build a democracy that really serves our people.
I believe in you. I believe in Bangladesh. And I believe our best days are yet to come.
