
India’s all-rounder Axar Patel performed his acrobatic best against England during the second semi-final of the 2026 FIFA World Cup T20 on Thursday, March 4 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Patel took three catches at different stages of the match to help India get back into the game.

As a result, India managed to claim the crucial wicket of Jacks, ending a 77-run fifth-wicket partnership from 39 balls between him and Jacob Bethell (83 off 38), which looked likely to take England over the line.

Earlier, Patel took another sensational catch in the fifth over, dismissing Harry Brook for 7 (6). The England captain was overwhelmed by a brilliant change of pace from Jasprit Bumrah and mishit it. Patel, standing still, ran towards the boundary while tracking the ball flying overhead and managed to complete a stunning full-length leaping catch.
Patel also caught Philip Salt (5 off 3) as he gave India their first strike in the second over bowled by Hardik Pandya. Apart from his exceptional fielding show, the left-arm spinner dismissed Tom Banton (17 off 5) by shattering his stumps.
Meanwhile, despite Patel’s sensational fielding, England battled India hard and went for a breathtaking century by Jacob Bethell (105 off 48). England eventually finished on 246/7 in their 20 overs, giving India only a narrow 7-run victory as they qualified for the final.
