As a temporary manager Roma, Claudio Ranieri, he decided to refuse the offer to take care of the Italian national team, instead decided to continue his connection with the Club of Serie and in the consulting role. A 73-year-old man, who led the Roma after the second part of the season 2023-24, was the highest candidate that replaced Luciana Spalletti after his release, but decided to remain loyal to Giallossi.
The Italian football Federation (FigC) identified Ranieri as the ideal successor of Spalletti, who was released after Italy by disappointment, including the recent loss to Norway. Figc even designed a unique dual role, allowing Ranieri to manage the national team while staying in the Roma, along with the prospect that he would become an Italian technical director in the future. However, after discussions with the Roma owner Dan Friedkin, he refused the offer and favored his commitment to the club.
“I thank President Gravina for an opportunity, a great honor, but I was thinking and decided to stay on the liquidation of the Roma in my new role. Friedkins gave me full support and support for any decision I made, but the decision is mine,”
With Ranieri of the Figc, Figc has now focused on former manager AC Milan Stefano Pioli as his other preferred candidate.
Spalletti’s tenure when the boss of Italy suddenly ended After just nine months in charge. Despite the promising victory of 3-1 over France in the league of nations, inconsistent results-including the quarterfinal collapse against German-is fate. Figc, desperate to avoid the missing third consecutive world championship, he acted quickly to remove him.
Ranieri, who previously managed Roma in 2009–11, returned as a temporary coach this season and has now moved to the advisory position. His decision to remain emphasizes his strong connection with the club and the FigC leaves further options before the major qualification of Euro 2028.
