Arshdeep Singh fully fit, training with team: Punjab Kings dismisses injury reports

Punjab Kings on Monday addressed the growing speculation surrounding their fast bowler Arshdeep Singh as the franchise enters a crucial phase of the ongoing IPL season. The development comes as PBKS struggle with inconsistent form and battle to keep their play-off hopes alive heading into their final game of the league stage.

Concerns arose after reports suggested that Arshdeep appeared below his usual standards during one of the Punjab Kings’ training sessions. ahead of their clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on 17 May. The left-arm pacer featured in the game and finished with figures of 1/43, but speculation about his pace and fitness continued to attract attention even after the result.

“Contrary to reports, we would like to confirm that our leading fast bowler and top wicket taker, Arshdeep Singh, is fully fit and actively training with the team,” PBKS said in a statement issued on Monday.

“The team management is absolutely happy with his progress and he doesn’t want to go as we head into a crucial match of the tournament. His energy, rhythm and commitment in the nets has been extremely encouraging and we are sure he will continue to play a key role for Punjab Kings, going forward,” added the franchise.

PBKS HOPE TO HANG ON BY A THREAD

The Punjab Kings campaign has seen a dramatic downturn after an unbeaten start to the season. The franchise has now lost six in a row, leaving virtually no room for error in the playoff race. With one game to go, PBKS will depend heavily on the senior players, especially Arshdeep, to perform under pressure and help keep their qualification hopes alive.

Despite struggling to emulate the consistency he showed in previous IPL campaigns, Arshdeep remains the highest wicket-taker for PBKS this season. The fast bowler has taken 14 wickets from 13 matches so far, a noticeable drop from his tally of 21 last season and 19 in IPL 2024, where he also maintained an impressive strike rate of 15.8.

Even off the field, Pacer found himself under scrutiny after the controversy around alleged racial remarks directed at Indian cricketer Tilak Varma, which drew criticism across social media platforms.
