
Arsenal officially confirmed the signing of the Spanish midfielder Martin Zubimendi of Real Sociedad. The announcement was made on the official website of the club and the channels of social media on Sunday 6 July.
Zubimendi joined Gunners after 236 performances for Sociedad appeared in all competitions, after he proceeded through his youth system to the senior team. He was also part of the team that raised the title Copa del Rey 2019–2020 in April 2021 after the delayed final, where they defeated the Bilbao Athletic Club. The victory was a proud moment shared with the current Arsenal player Mikel Merino.
Zubimendi becomes one of the few players, including Mikel Artta, Martin Odegaard and Nacho Monreal, to play for Real Sociedad and Arsenal.
Its signature comes at the time the middle field department hit Thomas Partey is accused with five numbers of rape and one number of sexual assaults.
After moving, Zubimendi explained that Arsenal’s playing style played a major role in his decision to join the North London Club.
“It’s a huge moment in my career. It’s a step I was looking for, and the one I wanted to do. Once you stand here, you’ll realize how big this club and this team are,” Zubimendi said.
“I watched Arsenal because their style of play is good for me. Recently they showed their potential and the best is yet to come.”
Arsenal Manager Mikel Arteta He also expressed his pleasure by signing and praised Zubimendi’s football intelligence and consistency over the years.
“Martin is a player who will bring a huge amount of quality and football intelligence to our team. It fits really well and has all the attributes to be a key player for us,” Arteta said.
“The standard that has been constantly conducted in the last few seasons for the club and the country is exactly why we are so excited that we have it with us. We welcome Martin and his family in the club.”
Zubimendi will wear shirt number 36 and is expected to join with their new teammates at the Sobha Realty Training Center before the club’s preparation before the club season.
