Condemning the ongoing arrests of Tamil Nadu fishermen by the Sri Lankan Navy, All India Fisherman Congress National President S. Armstrong Fernando said the Fishermen’s wing would hold a protest outside the Sri Lankan Embassy in Chennai on 27 October.
He said in a statement that this year alone, the Sri Lankan Navy has seized more than 30 boats and arrested 180 fishermen. “Ever since the BJP government came to power in 2014, attacks on fishermen have increased manifold. In the last five years alone, cases have been filed against more than 200 ships. Out of this, 150 ships have been nationalized by the Sri Lanka Navy. The wood and other parts are sold in Jaffna,” he said.
