Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi on Sunday (January 4, 2026) left for the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on a two-day visit to explore ways to strengthen bilateral military cooperation.
General Dwivedi is scheduled to hold wide-ranging talks with the influential Gulf nation’s top military officials. “The visit underscores the shared commitment to deepen mutual understanding, strengthen cooperation in areas of common interest and deepen bilateral defense cooperation between the two nations,” the Indian Army said on social media.
General Dwivedi’s trip comes weeks after the Commander of the Presidential Guard in the Persian Gulf, Major General Ali Saif Humaid Alkaabi, visited India. The army chief’s visit comes amid rapid developments in the Persian Gulf region, including escalating tensions between the UAE and Saudi Arabia over the situation in Yemen.
Military cooperation between India and the United Arab Emirates has seen a significant boost following the visit of then Army Chief General MM Naravane to the country in December 2020. It was the first ever visit of an Indian Army chief to the UAE.
