Are you watching the FIFA World Cup final on July 20? Maharashtra allows restaurants to stay open till 4 am

Maharashtra’s exemption allowed restaurants, cafes and bars across the state to remain open until 4am on Monday to facilitate live screening of the 2026 FIFA World Cup final. The decision comes just a day before the title clash between defending champions Argentina and Spain.

The decision was taken after the National Restaurant Association of India (NRAI) in Mumbai sought permission for restaurants, hotels and eateries across Maharashtra to remain open beyond normal closing hours to allow customers to watch the live telecast of the 2026 FIFA World Cup final on July 20.

The permit is subject to five conditions

In an order issued by the Home Ministry, the government said the relaxation was granted under Section 33 of the Maharashtra Police Act, 1951 and would apply only to licensed restaurants, hotels and eateries.

However, establishments must meet several conditions.

Restaurant owners have been directed to deploy adequate private security inside and outside their premises to ensure that there is no law and order problem or disturbance of public order.

The order also prohibits illegal activities, obscene conduct, loud music or any behavior that may cause a public nuisance. Management will be responsible for ensuring compliance.

The government has clarified that all existing restrictions on establishments will remain in place. Any violation of the law or breach of the peace may result in legal action, including cancellation of relaxation.

The order further states that district magistrates and police commissioners may, if necessary, impose further restrictions or revoke relaxations depending on local law and order, public tranquility and other prevailing conditions.

Delhi, Telangana, Bengaluru extend restaurant hours for FIFA World Cup final

Delhi, Telangana, Bengaluru and Assam have also extended the opening hours of restaurants, cafes and bars to allow fans to watch the live screening of the 2026 FIFA World Cup final.

The move comes as several states have made special arrangements for football fans ahead of the spectacular match.

During his visit, the World Cup-winning footballer took part in a 7-on-7 exhibition match alongside Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. He also interacted with fans, received a standing ovation from the crowd and met Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi.

Meanwhile, Argentina prepare to defend their title against Spain in the final as Messi prepares to face his former club, FC Barcelona prodigies Pedri and Lamine Yamal.

Messi and his team will be up against a formidable Spanish defense that has only conceded one goal in the tournament. Spain are aiming for their first FIFA World Cup title since 2010.
