
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heat alert for north-west and central India till April 28 and has given some steps to avoid heat stroke and accident which are as follows:
• Drink plenty of water
• Avoid direct sunlight between 12:00 and 16:00
• Wear light, loose clothing
• Use hats and umbrellas
• Do not leave children or pets in parked vehicles
Heat wave conditions are expected to subside after April 28. The Met Office has suggested relief from the intense heat after 2 days and has issued a yellow alert for heat wave conditions in Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan.

The Met office in its latest press release said, “Hot and humid weather conditions are very likely to prevail in isolated pockets over …Odisha during April 26-27; Tripura, Konkan & Goa, Gujarat State, Coastal Karnataka, Kerala & Mahe on April 26; Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal during April 26-29.”

Meanwhile, warm night conditions are likely to occur over isolated areas of Punjab and Uttar Pradesh on April 26. Residents of Haryana and Delhi can expect similar weather conditions during the night between April 26 and 27, while Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh can brace themselves for warm overnight conditions on April 27 and 28.
According to the IMD, heat wave to severe heat wave prevailed over isolated places of Himachal Pradesh on April 25. Besides, heatwave conditions prevailed at several places over Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab and Rajasthan on Saturday. At the same time, Haryana reported strong warm night conditions while Rajasthan recorded somewhat less intense warm night conditions yesterday.
After recording temperature fluctuations well above normal, even higher than 5.1 °C at many places, the IMD predicted, “A gradual increase in maximum temperatures of 2-3 °C over Gujarat state till April 26 is likely to decrease by 2-4 °C during April 27-May 1. The Met Office has predicted no significant change in maximum temperatures till April 27 over the plains of northwest India and western Himalayas.

“Gradual decline in maximum temperatures by 3-6°C likely over Northeast till 27th and then no significant change during April 28-May 1,” the IMD said.
Eastern and northeastern India to see heavy rains
The Meteorological Department predicted rainfall in East and Northeast India: “Isolated heavy rainfall likely over Arunachal Pradesh on 26th and 29th; Assam & Meghalaya on 26th; Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura during 27-30th; with isolated very heavy rainfall likely over 27th on 1st May and Assam & Meghalaya during 27th April to 1st May.” Heavy downpour is also likely in the sub-Himalayan region of West Bengal and Sikkim till May 1.

Delhi will witness ‘partly cloudy skies’ with scorching conditions at isolated places. “Maximum and minimum temperatures over Delhi are likely to be in the range of 41°C to 43°C and 25°C to 27°C respectively. Minimum temperature will be above normal (1.6°C to 3.0°C) at many places with markedly above normal (3.0°C to 5.1°C) at isolated places and maximum above 5.1°C will be around 3.0°C over most places over Delhi,” the report added.
