PBKS vs MI: HIGHLIGHTS | SCORECARD
Off the field, Punjab have been plagued by numerous controversies and gossip about their players. It started with Yuzvendra Chahal’s vaping, followed by Prabhsimran Singh’s fitness talk. PBKS and owner Preity Zinta have challenged people to spread fake stories around the team as a result.
The latest was the Arshdeep Singh-Tilak Varma incidentwhere the pacer was accused of racially insulting Mumbai.
But Haddin doesn’t feel it will be a problem for Punjab. Speaking to the media after the loss to Mumbai, the PBKS assistant coach said the team is not listening to outside noise and is only focused on ending its losing streak.
Haddin said online chatting comes with playing professional sports and players will have to learn to handle it.
“No, the dressing room is good. I’m not on social media much so I don’t know the situation there, but we just have to find a way to win cricket in the camp.”
“Whatever external noise is, it’s part of playing a professional sport. It’s not always just about the field – you have to deal with everything off the field and make sure that when you cross that line, you’re in the right space to play,” Haddin said.
WHAT WRONG WITH PBKS?
Punjab won six of their first seven games and sat right on top of the IPL points table. A place in the top two looked assured for them, but they now need to win their remaining two games to reach the final four.
Haddin was asked what had gone wrong with the team in the last few games and his answer was simple. Punjab could not deal with the pressure.
The PBKS assistant coach said his team will have to dig deep and find a way to break the losing streak.
“We just haven’t been able to handle the pressure in the last couple of defeats. We haven’t played our best cricket when we needed to, which is disappointing.”
“Like you, we are disappointed with how we started the tournament and where we are now. But the one thing that will come out of this is that we have to find a way to get out of this. There is no hiding from the fact that we have to play better.”
“There are good things we are doing and things we need to work on, but the key is we have two games left and we have to find a way. There is no tomorrow. We have to win the remaining games. It’s as simple as that,” Haddin said.
PBKS will face RCB in their next game in Dharamsala on the day
