
Prominent architect RK REMESH, 79, died in Kozhikode on Thursday morning (July 17). Proposed several iconic structures throughout the state, including the Manachira Square, Sarama Biopark, EMS Corporation Stadium and Beach Development in Kozhikode; Academy of EMS in Thiruvananthapuram; and corporate offices for Kollam and Thrissur. He also promoted the cost -effective housing solution for more than five decades.
Remesh, a graduate of architecture from the University of Keral University, launched his professional journey in Kozhikode more than 55 years ago. For his pioneering work he gained extensive recognition in the development of innovative and affordable housing for disadvantaged all of India.
The Ministry of the Environment, inspired by its development work, in cooperation with UNDP commissioned a film on energy -efficient construction. Remesh served as chairman and Executive Director “Shelter Guidance Center for cost -effective construction systems for available housing”, as well as Executive Director Bhavanam, a charity company that offers free cost -effective construction advice to those who do not have homes.
Its portfolio includes projects such as Kozhikode, the craft village of Iringal, Vadakar, the Thunchan memorial in Tirura, Kottakunnu Park in Malappuram, the development of the Dharmadam Island and Muzhappilangad Beach, Nayanar Academy in Kannur, Thivananham.
The architectural track Remesh has also expanded to the construction of the Ksrtc Terminal Terminal Station – Cum in Kozhikode, the KSRTC bus terminal in Malappuram, Shihab Thangal Super Special Hospital in Tirura and the Football Academy and the Sports complex in Manjeri.
Among his diverse projects he designed the private residence of former Prime Minister Chandra Shekhar in Delhi. Other main works include several super specialized hospitals, Adulux Convention Center in Karukutty, all Rubco projects, Amal Jyothi Engineering College in Kanjirapaly, Sree Vellapally Engineering College, Mahe Riverside Development for Puduchherry government in Puduchherry.
As a recognition of his contributions, in 2010 he was awarded the Nirman Pratibh Award by President of India in New Delhi. He was the first recipient of the National Prize for Perfection in Architecture in 1989. The Institute also honored him with a price for lifelong contribution to lifelong income for the cause of architecture in 2004.
In addition to his professional practice, Remesh was appointed a special officer of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs for Kalagram and Global Artists Village in Sreekandapuram in Kannara. The Ministry of the Environment and the Ministry of Forest and wildlife also appreciated him for his service of the executive secretary for the protection of Silent Valley.
