IntrCity SmartBus, an inter-city mobility brand, has launched an AQI-enabled inter-city bus service on the Vijayawada-Bengaluru route with a focus on passenger health and comfort.
Deputy Commissioner of Police for Transport Shereen Begum, who launched the service in Vijayawada on Saturday, said the main objective of the initiative is to improve air quality in buses while ensuring better protection of passengers’ health.
According to internal studies conducted by IntrCity, air pollution levels in bus cabins are two to three times higher than the limits recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO).
To solve this problem, the company introduced SmartBus AQI technology.
According to a press release issued by the company, in-flight PM2.5 levels were kept at around 40 µg per cubic meter in the AQI-enabled bus during the trial run.
The company also said that real-time readings of AQI and PM2.5 inside the bus will be displayed on the on-board display screens as well as on its mobile app.
