AP’s First Private Women’s University, Govt. degree college for the hearing impaired get Cabinet nod

Cabinet approves transfer of government land in Visakhapatnam to AIG Hospitals for nursing college and allied health sciences campus.

Andhra Pradesh is set to get its first private women’s university, with the state cabinet on Thursday approving the upgrading of Sri Vishnu Engineering College for Women, Bhimavaram, to Vishnu Women’s University. The cabinet also approved the conversion of Chalapathi Institute of Technology in Guntur district into Chalapathi University by amending the Andhra Pradesh Private Universities (Establishment and Regulation) Act, 2016.

Minister Kolusu Parthasarathy said the two universities will promote multi-disciplinary education, research, innovation and skill development. According to the law, 35% of the seats will be filled under the government quota at concessional fees for students from socially and economically disadvantaged sections.

The cabinet also approved the establishment of a government college exclusively for hearing-impaired students at Vedullapalli in Bapatla district from the academic year 2026-27. The college will initially admit 30 students and offer a B.Com (Computer Applications) program along with a certificate course in Artificial Intelligence. The government said the institution will bridge the higher education gap for nearly 450 hearing-impaired students who complete their intermediate each year.

The cabinet, among other decisions, approved the transfer of government land in Visakhapatnam to AIG Hospitals for a college of nursing and an affiliated health sciences campus and exempted from stamp duty and registration fees the lease of the SKIT campus in Tirupati district to JNTU-Anantapur to revive the defunct engineering institution, he added.
