The price of gasoline, diesel today, April 4: Gasoline rates today, like diesel rates today, remained unchanged despite significant fluctuations in the global oil market amid the US-Iran war in the Middle East.
The government has indicated that it is likely to keep petrol and diesel prices steady for now despite the global supply crisis as oil companies continue to try to absorb any sudden changes in prices for customers. The Center had earlier announced a significant reduction in the special additional excise duty on petrol and diesel to provide more cushion to OMCs.

OMCs suffered significant losses
Indian OMCs are incurring massive fuel sales losses as global oil prices rise amid the ongoing US-Iran war in the Middle East, even as retail fuel prices remain unchanged, the Petroleum and Natural Gas Ministry said on Thursday.
Speaking to reporters at an inter-ministerial briefing, Sujata Sharma, joint secretary in the ministry, said that open methods of coordination faced under-enforcement of approx. ₹24 per liter for petrol and ₹104 per liter of diesel.
“Government of India has reduced excise duty to keep prices stable and our oil marketing companies are also bearing part of the burden. Currently there is under-enforcement of approx. ₹24 per liter for petrol and ₹104 per liter of diesel,” she said.
