Almost 20% of 2,859 sanctioned contributions to the University of Kashmir lay empty as in February 2024, Varsity stated in response to the request submitted under the Information Act (RTI), which emphasized a significant lack of employees across departments.
The application submitted by an activist of RTI based on Jamm Raman Kumar Sharma revealed in February 2025 that most vacancies were at the faculty level. This includes more than 200 key features of professors, associate professors and professors, in addition to 110 junior assistants.
Against the sanctioned force of 2,859 jobs, 570 contributions were unoccupied on 29 February 2024, the central public information official of the University of Kashmir, Ghulam Mohammed Wani said in his answer.
Wani, who is also an assistant to the university, said there were 56 sanctioned professors’ functions, but 47 are unoccupied, while 91 of the 120 jobs of associate professors are unoccupied.
Similarly, only 291 job professors are filled in, and 40 other contributions were unoccupied, adding that five directors remained unoccupied against sanctioned functions.
Up to 110 junior assistance contributions against the sanctioned power of 180 is without employees, he said.
Administrative contribution lying free
The RTI also revealed that the posts of Dean of College Development Council, Dean of the Blahobyt Students, Academic Coordinator, Research worker, Editor-Cum-Referent, Documentation Referent, Editor-Cum-Rerearch Assistant, Another Estates Estates.
The university also awaits the appointment of professor-cum-principal (nursing), two professionals (nursing), three lecturers (nursing), two representatives of directors and three auxiliary directors in the physical education department, one deputy director and three assistants in the Directorate for Internal Quality Referring, Nine Assistant Librarians and two officers.
The Institute of Music and Fine Art of the University is also without a director and from seven higher instructors (IMFA), only three are published in the department, RTI said.
There are three vacancies of common registrars, two representatives of registrars-cum-based inspections, tests, seven auxiliary registrars-cum-asistent examinations, two assistant programmers, one auditor, three coaches (physical education and sport), two computer operators, three Hindus and five junior engineers.
