
Bangladesh (Photo by PTI) NEW DELHI: The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced new restrictions on journalists entering the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka amid the ongoing controversy over Bangladesh’s participation in the T20 World Cup in India. The decision comes amid heightened security measures in and around the stadium.

The BCB issued an official statement on Saturday and informed media representatives of the updated rules. The board clarified that the new guidelines are effective immediately and will apply to anyone entering the stadium grounds, including journalists.The BCB said: “As part of the ongoing security measures at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) and its surrounding areas, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) wishes to inform that revised entry rules are being implemented with effect from now.”The statement added: “These measures will apply to all persons, including members of the media, entering the stadium premises.”Under the revised rules, media personnel must follow strict entry rules. Gate 1 has been designated as the only entry point for journalists. Access will only be allowed on certain occasions such as match days, official press conferences, events organized by the BCB or selected training sessions which are communicated in advance.The BCB also asked for the cooperation of all those involved, stressing that these measures are necessary to ensure safety and proper management at the venue. The board said: “The Bangladesh Cricket Board sincerely seeks the understanding and cooperation of all concerned to ensure smooth implementation of these measures in the larger interest of safety, security and smooth running of the venue and BCB offices.” The development comes shortly after the International Cricket Council replaced Bangladesh with Scotland for the upcoming 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup, which is scheduled to begin on February 7.
