iOS 16.7.1 is currently being rolled out to older iPhone models, and a few days later, Apple released a qualifying phone for iOS 17.0.3 to address the overheating problem affecting the iPhone 15 Pro model. As part of the latest iOS 16 update, Cupertino has patched two security flaws and advised users to download and install updates on their smartphones. Meanwhile, users who have not installed iOS 17 update on recent iPhone models can also download the iOS 16.7.1 update.
The iOS 16.7.1 update begins to be rolled out to users for iPhone 8 and newer models, while owners of qualified iPad models will be able to download the iPad 16.7.1 update. Users running devices that are compatible with iOS 17 but temporarily choose to stay on iOS 16 will also be able to update to the latest version.
Just like the iOS 17.0.3 update launched last week, the iOS 16.7.1 update has an important fix with the iOS 16 kernel vulnerability, allowing local attackers to increase privileges and access devices. The iPhone manufacturer said that according to the security instructions for the Apple update for iOS 16.7.1, the issue was reportedly actively exploited on systems running iOS 16.6 and above.
Again, the update comes with an update to WEBRTC (a real-time communication framework used by several web services and related companies). The company said the flaws fixed by Apple will allow execution of arbitrary (or malicious) code on users’ smartphones.
At the same time, Apple also launched the third beta of iOS 17.1 to users on the public beta channel. The update is expected to be rolled out to users in the next few weeks and will bring the ability to complete Airdrop transmission over the Internet, a new flashlight indicator for Dynamic Island on non-iPhone 15 Pro models, and new features from Apple Music include from the lock screen Add love abilities.
