Andhra Pradesh Handlooms and Textiles Minister S. Savitha announced that APCO will continue its 40% discount on handloom garments at all showrooms till Sankranti.
The minister said in a statement on Tuesday that the decision was taken in response to the strong public support shown over the festive period. She noted that changing fashion preferences have revived interest in handwoven clothing among people of all age groups.
The minister recalled that APCO had offered the same 40 percent discount during Dasara and Diwali, which saw an overwhelming response from customers. Encouraged by this move, the government decided to extend the discount period. Ms. Savitha said that this initiative not only helps consumers to buy quality handwoven products at affordable prices but also provides economic stability and job security to the weavers.
According to the minister, daily sales in APCO showrooms have seen a significant jump. Before the rebate scheme, APCO recorded average daily sales of ₹ 3,000 across the state. After the 40 percent discount was introduced, sales rose to ₹ 9 crore per day.
Ms. Savitha added that the government under the leadership of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is taking steps to promote handloom products widely. Handloom exhibitions have already been held in Vijayawada, Guntur and Rajahmundry and similar bazaars will soon be organized in Visakhapatnam, Kurnool, Kadapa and other district centres.
