APCC is protesting in Vijayawada today against “irregularities” in electoral rolls

The Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) will hold a protest near the Indira Gandhi Municipal Stadium in Vijayawada on Monday at 10:30 am against what the party described as irregularities in electoral rolls across the country.

APCC President YS Sharmila has called for the protest in support of nationwide demonstrations led by Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha and senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and as directed by the All India Congress Committee (AICC).

APCC vice-president and in-charge Kolanukonda Shivaji said on Sunday that the party had raised concerns over the alleged deletion of around 13 million voters from electoral rolls and the issuance of notices to an estimated 3-4 million voters due to insufficient identity documentation.

Mr Shivaji said the protesters would demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and seek registration of criminal cases against him and his arrest.
