Principal Secretary and Special CS (Energy) K. Vijayanand directed the power companies to ensure uninterrupted and reliable 24×7 power supply in the coming months by properly observing strict financial prudence while purchasing power. He stressed that energy companies must adopt a dynamic and cost-effective procurement strategy through continuous monitoring of market prices and trends in renewable energy generation.
Addressing a review meeting on the functioning of power companies at Vidyut Soudha here on Thursday, Mr. Vijayanand said that power availability from all sources for November 2025 was projected at 213 million units (MU) against the estimated grid demand of 218 MU.
He said solar power generation is forecast to range between 70MW and 1,870MW from 06:30 to 17:30, coinciding with the daily peak. Expected wind output will be between 90MW and 400MW, he said, adding that the 500MW Sileru hydroelectric plant would be actively used for grid balancing during the day and fully utilized during evening peaks.
Deficit
Officials told Mr. Vijayanand that the deficit for October was projected at 15.33 MU per day, with a maximum deficit of 1,800 MW. However, keeping in view the prevailing market conditions and Srisailam’s production support, the power companies have adopted the approach of buying on a daily basis instead of long-term bonds. This flexible strategy has yielded significant savings.
Mr. Vijayanand appreciated the coordinated efforts of AP-Genco, AP-Transco and DISCOMs in effectively managing the power supply position in October and instructed them to maintain the same level of preparedness and operational efficiency in the coming months. It directed AP-Genco to maintain an average daily thermal generation of 4,200MW in November to meet the peak demand and ensure optimum production at all thermal plants.
He wanted sufficient coal stocks to be maintained in view of the ongoing rains and stressed the need to plan and procure the required quality of coal for the more powerful units (500 MW, 600 MW and 800 MW) in the three thermal plants to achieve maximum generation and strengthen grid stability from December.
AP-Genco MD S. Nagalakshmi, AP-Transco Joint MD G. Surya Sai Praveenchand, Directors AKV Bhaskar, JV Rao and NV Ramana Murthy, AP-Genco Directors M. Sujaya Kumar and P. Ashok Kumar Reddy, AP Power Development Company Limited Director, M.MD Rago BabuRED, Srinivasa. were present.
