
The AP branch of the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) on Tuesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bengaluru-based NGO Sankalp India Foundation to strengthen health services for children suffering from thalassemia and sickle cell disease.
The MoU was signed by Foundation President Rajath Agarwal and AP Red Cross General Secretary AK Parida in the presence of AP Red Cross Chairman YD Rama Rao.
The MoU aims to establish a network of centers for the care of children with Sickle Cell and Thalassemia across Andhra Pradesh. The initiative aims to improve hemoglobinopathy care, improve early detection and prevention, and support long-term treatment and cure efforts, especially for children from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
Red Cross members highlighted the urgent need for structured and accessible care facilities for Thalassemia and Sickle cell disease patients and said the partnership will significantly strengthen medical support systems, blood availability, counseling services and awareness programs across the state.
