Civil Supplies Minister Nadendla Manohar on Thursday informed the newly sworn-in members of the Madanapalle Agriculture Market Committee (AMC) to prioritize farmers’ welfare and address their problems at the field level expeditiously.
Addressing the new committee members and farmers, mostly tomato growers from across Annamayya district, Mr. Manohar here reiterated that the coalition government headed by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan is focused on agrarian issues. He added that they are working out specific modules that will ensure minimum support prices (MSP) for the predominant horticultural crops in the region and thereby prevent crop losses.
The minister recalled that he had visited Madanapalle in 2019 to study the plight of tomato farmers. He declared that steps would be initiated to conduct regular checks by the Ministry of Agriculture and allied ministries to ensure price stability.
Meanwhile, Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav, who was present, said the Madanapalle tomato market continues to be the largest in Asia as it processes nearly 2 million metric tonnes of tomatoes annually. He called for initiatives to set up pulp and powder processing units to increase exports and agrarian income. The minister said he would discuss the matter with the chief minister and central authorities.
Transport Minister Mandipalli Ramprasad Reddy, on the other hand, said that the government is in the forefront of implementing a number of key welfare schemes for farmers. He said the ₹1,800 crore Jal Jeevan mission was aimed at solving water scarcity in the Rayalaseema region.
Apart from the coalition party cadres, senior officials of agriculture and other departments from Annamayya, Chittoor and Kadapa districts were present.
