AP MA&UD Ministry distributes to 19 transgenders in Nellore

Andhra Pradesh Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) Minister Ponguru Narayana on Monday (October 12, 2026) distributed 19 transgenders to 19 transgender persons in Nellore Division 4. He promised accommodation pattas to all transgender people across the city soon.

Earlier in August, when the minister was on a tour of Division 4, transgender people asked him to help them get housing. In response to their request, he alerted the Tahsildar, Joint Collector and Municipal Commissioner and issued an order to provide pattas to them.

Officials have made necessary arrangements and 19 transgender persons have been given accommodation allowances. When asked about the total number of transgender people in the city, Mr. Narayana was informed that there were about 140 and later announced that each person would be given financial assistance of ₹50,000 to build a house, drawn from his personal funds.

He also said that steps will be taken to ensure that the beneficiaries receive additional financial assistance of ₹ 2.5 lakh from both the central and state governments. Recalling that the GO related to pensions for transgenders was issued earlier during his tenure in Kurnool, he stressed that ensuring justice for everyone – including the transgender community – was the primary objective of the government.
