Minister for Tourism, Culture and Cinematography Kandula Durgesh on Friday expressed happiness over the integration of Belum in the list of geological heritage by a geological survey of India (GSI).
The Belum Cave is located in Colimigundla Mandal from the Nandyal district, representing ancient culture and heritage, with a history extending to 450 BCE and bridging an area of approximately 23 acres.
In his statement, the Minister stated that the GSI statement is expected to further strengthen the potential of tourism of the caves and that recognition would prepare a way for the development of the region.
Belum caves were known to be the second largest underground cave system in the world and the longest in India, said the Minister and added that they had gained international recognition. He emphasized the fascinating natural underground formations in caves, which not only attract visitors, but also provide a unique and pleasant experience.
He said that the Lakhs of tourists visit this place every year, adding that there will be efforts to make a greater promotion of the website to attract domestic and international tourists.
Mr. Durgesh said that the Rayalaseem region other places and all these places will continue to develop.
“Question of Pride”
Meanwhile, addressing the media in Nandyl, Minister of Roads and Buildings, before the fluctuations of Janardhan Reddy, GSI welcomed the decision.
“It is a very proud moment for the inhabitants of the Banaganapalle assembly,” Reddy said, adding that rare recognition would place famous caves on the map of the national tourism.
He reiterated that the government would initiate all measures to develop caves so that it could turn into a global tourist destination, which in turn would encourage employment and economic opportunities in the region.
“The Ministry of Tourism will soon come up with a comprehensive action plan to attract home and international visitors,” Reddy said.
