As Andhra Pradesh works hard to establish the country’s first Artificial Intelligence (AI) University, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu did not miss the opportunity to seek the cooperation of South Korean multinational LG through its subsidiary LG AI Research, established in December 2020, at the 30th CII Partnership Summit held on November 14-15 in Visakhapatnam.
In a one-on-one interaction, Mr Naidu met Yunjo Ko, LG Chem’s chief sustainability strategy officer, at the summit on Saturday (November 15). During their interaction, the Chief Minister expressed interest in collaborating with LG AI Research (an AI think tank for the entire LG Group with 16 affiliates including LG Chem and LG Electronics) on his dream project, AI University, in Amaravati.
A senior AP government official, who was with the chief minister in a one-on-one meeting with Mr. Ko, exclusively told The Hindu, “The AP government has expressed interest in working with LG AI Research at the summit for AI University. A team will be sent to the LG subsidiary soon for further progress.”
In fact, the Chief Minister met LG Chem Vice Chairman and CEO Hak Cheol Shin at the World Economic Forum 2025 in Davos in January 2025 and also sent his ministers to meet Mr. Shin in Seoul in September 2025 to invite him to the 30th CII Partnership Summit in Visakhapatnam to discuss investment opportunities. Subsequently, Mr Ko visited Visakhapatnam to meet Mr Naidu for a summit on Saturday (November 15).
“During the conversation, the topic of LG AI Research came up for discussion. Mr. Naidu expressed interest in working with her on the AI University project. The government has already indicated that it plans to work with private partners and is seeking international cooperation for the AI University. This is just the beginning,” a government official clarified.
It can be said that LG AI Research was established to create a promising future through advanced technology and drive the next generation of AI by providing the right research environment. Its main focus is the development of AI technologies for language, vision and data intelligence, including large-scale models such as EXAONE (which is a series of large language models developed by LG AI research. The latest versions are EXAONE 4.0). LG AI Research is based in Seoul, South Korea.
Earlier this year, the AP government had already signed an MoU with California-based NVIDIA to build an AI ecosystem and university. Now LG AI Research has also been invited to collaborate on the university project. NVIDIA is an American multinational technology company that designs and manufactures graphics processing units (GPUs), systems-on-chips (SoCs), and other high-performance computing technologies.
