AP High Court Bench to be set up in Kurnool, Minister claims

Industries and Commerce Minister TG Bharath Gupta reiterated the government’s commitment to set up a bench of the Andhra Pradesh High Court in Kurnool and urged advocates protesting the delay to exercise restraint and not resort to protests.

The minister’s assertion comes amid protests by a section of lawyers against excessive delay in the trial and claims that a camp circuit bench or a mobile bench would be set up instead of a permanent bench.

Participating in the ‘Two Years of Trust – Development and Welfare’ program in Kurnool 10th Ward on Friday, Mr. Bharath made it clear that the Supreme Court Bench would be set up in Kurnool.

“I discussed the matter with Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and he assured that a Supreme Court bench will definitely be set up in Kurnool. IT Minister Nara Lokesh has also given sufficient clarity on the matter,” he said.

Noting that the process of setting up the High Court bench involved legal procedures and protocols, the minister appealed to the advocates not to take hasty decisions.

The minister accused the previous YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) government of not keeping the promises made regarding the Supreme Court. He said the alliance government was moving forward by fulfilling its promises one by one.

Mr. Bharath announced that eligible beneficiaries will soon have the option to apply for pension and urged all eligible individuals to avail it.

He also urged people and pandal organizers to install small clay idols for Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations as availability of water in ponds used for immersion is limited due to lack of rainfall. “Immersion of small clay idols requires less water. Immersion can even be done at home if needed,” he said.
