Minister of Sports Mansukh Mandaviya on Wednesday submitted the National Anti -Doping Act (amendment) in Lok Sabha and provided greater “operational independence” to the anti -Doping agency (NAPA), as set by WADA.
The disputed National Council for Anti -Doping in Sport has been left, but Nada’s appeal should no longer be, as in the original act approved in 2022.
This act could not be implemented as WADA (World Anti -Doping Agency) He alleged against the “intervention of the government” in the functioning of Nada.
“The National Anti -Doping Act (amendment), 2025, seeks to strengthen the institutional and operating independence of the national anti -Doping appeal panel and the National Anti -Doping Agency to ensure autonomy in their activities concerning activities, investigations and activities,” he said.
The Council was previously authorized to consider the appeal panel and “oversee the activities” Nada. This provision has been removed in a modified law that claims Nothing is autonomy.
“The CEO or any other agency employee has operational independence from any national sports federation, the International Federation, the National Olympic Committee, the National Paralympic Committee or any Ministry of the Government or Agency with Responsibility for Sport or Anti -Doping.”
The day before the implementation of the bill, the source of the Ministry of Sport said PTI that the changes are necessary to ensure that India does not end up being suspended by WADA.
“If we introduced law 2022, it would invite a ban on Wada. Our laboratory would be canceled. So the changes were necessary,” the source said.
