Actor and former AMMA (Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes) joint secretary Ansiba Hassan filed a petition with the Infopark police in Ernakulam district of Kerala against actor and AMMA executive committee member Tini Tom for allegedly making communal remarks and derogatory comments against her.
It was her second complaint against former colleagues on the AMMA Executive Committee. She had earlier petitioned the chief minister, home minister and state police chief against AMMA vice-president Lakshmi Priya, accusing her of filing a fabricated case at Tripunithura women’s police station. In the complaint, the sub-inspector of the station was also named as an accused, who allegedly harassed him for three hours because of the fabricated case. In this case, she has already given her statement to Deputy Commissioner of Police Thrikkakar.
“The latest complaint against Tini Tom is for passing joint notes and separate derogatory comments against me in the AMMA Executive Committee WhatsApp group,” Ms Hassan said. She reiterated that she had no intention of appearing before the AMMA Executive Committee at the hearing.
“How can I expect a fair hearing from the same committee I have complained against? I am still ready for a hearing provided an independent commission is formed for the purpose,” she added.
Last week, the AMMA President and Secretary issued a notice asking Ms. Hassan to appear at a hearing with evidence regarding her allegations against members of the Executive Committee. She was asked to appear on any of the first three days of this month. The announcement stated that the executive committee has taken note of certain complaints and statements received by the association, as well as those that have been made public in recent days, regarding the behavior of members and the way internal affairs are handled.
In her response, Ms Hassan called for the establishment of a three-member independent panel or commission for a “fair and impartial” hearing. She recommended the names of Ramesh Pisharody, Dhyan Sreenivasan and Maala Parvathi “or any unbiased personality”. She further insisted that the entire hearing process be recorded and preserved in AMMA’s official records. She said this was necessary to ensure justice as her allegations were against the president, vice president and executive member of AMMA.
Last month, AMMA president Shwetha Menon issued an unofficial gag order to executive committee members, barring them from public statements in an apparent attempt to diffuse tensions.
