Another start, another miss: Vaibhav Sooryavanshi falls for 21 against Sri Lanka A
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi (X-Cricbuzz) Another disappointment for Vaibhav Sooryavanshi as the teenage batting sensation once again failed to convert a promising start into a big score in the ongoing Tri-Nation Series. The 15-year-old represented India A against Sri Lanka A in the fourth match of the tournament and looked in good touch early on after Sri Lanka A won the toss and elected to bowl first. Sooryavanshi raced to 21 from just 14 balls, hitting three fours and a six before dropping the wicket and attempting another attacking strike. The dismissal came courtesy of Sahan Arachchige, who lured the youngster for a drive outside the off-stump. The ball took a slight deflection, took an outside edge and slid towards point where Wanuja Sahan completed a well-judged catch. In Match 1 against Sri Lanka A on 9 June 2026, he made his India A debut and made an aggressive start, smashing three boundaries against Mohamed Shiraz and Chamica Karunaratne. However, his stay lasted only 12 births. Attempting to loft the ball over the infield, he failed to gain the required altitude, allowing Sri Lanka A captain Sahan Arachchige to pull off a stunning catch. In Match 2 against Afghanistan A on 11 June 2026, after a modest score in the opening session, Sooryavanshi bounced back with an entertaining knock of 44 off 22 balls. Batting at a strike rate of 200, he smashed nine boundaries and looked set for a half-century before succumbing to Abdullah Ahmadzai. The young opener was caught behind by goalkeeper Ishaq Rahimi. A familiar pattern is emergingThroughout the tournament, Sooryavanshi displayed a fearless move game. However, scores of 14, 44 and 21 highlight a growing pattern, quick starts full of boundaries but no significant conversion.
