Former Pakistan pacer said this earlier The Blackcaps would go on to win the final. Before the post-match show, Amir was asked what he had to say as his prediction failed. The former Pakistan pacer had a nonchalant response when he said that India will not bring home the T20 World Cup trophy.

“They won, that’s good, they will take the cup home, they won’t bring it home to me, excellent…” said Amir.
Earlier in the tournament, Amir predicted that India would lose to South Africa in the Super 8 and he got it right. Since then he kept repeating that India would not make it to the finals and win the title. For this, the former Pakistan pacer was slammed by the fans and former Indian cricketers like Navjot Singh Sidhu and Mohammed Kaif.
‘NEW ZEALAND BOWLER HELPED INDIA WIN’
Talking about the game on Harna Maana Hai, Amir said that it was the New Zealand bowlers who handed India the title. The former Pakistan pacer was baffled by the strategy used by Mitchell Santner when he did not last against Abhishek Sharma with off-spin and gave him a good start.
Amir also felt New Zealand buckled under the pressure of the final.
“Credit also goes to the New Zealand bowlers in a special way. They bowled four four wides outside the stumps and got sixes from there. Very free bowling. It’s not that India don’t deserve credit. But I didn’t understand the strategy. First he dropped Henry all over, then off-spin, then Henry again. In two overs and Henry gave only 12 runs at one time.”
“When you know Abhishek Sharma is struggling against off-spin, you should bring it straight away. But they brought Duffy in and bowled some strange bowling. Lockie Ferguson looked like a very normal bowler to me today. Three wide balls, two off-spin and then one slot ball – hit for a six.”
“I’ve been watching New Zealand since 2004-05. I’ve never seen them under that much pressure. Maybe because of the crowd, maybe because it was a final. But look, Abhishek Sharma is also a young lad. He didn’t do anything the whole tournament. He must have been under pressure too. Then the skill level difference comes in somewhere. The mental strength of the players in these matches matters. And I think India showed that in the final, Amir.
India beat New Zealand by 96 runs to claim their third T20 World Cup title.
