
Thiruvananthapuram district on Wednesday reported another death due to amoebic meningoencephalitis.
A 77-year-old woman from Chirayinkil who was being treated at the Government Medical College Hospital in Thiruvananthapuram died on Wednesday, taking the total number of deaths due to amoebic meningoencephalitis in the district to seven. Not much is known about how the woman might have contracted the infection.
Thiruvananthapuram reports the highest number of amoebic infection cases in the state. As on Tuesday, the state has reported 149 cases, of which Thiruvananthapuram accounts for 48 cases.
