Another case of minor girl getting pregnant comes to light in Dharwad

Close to a minor girl who gave birth to a child, another case of a minor girl who became pregnant due to alleged sexual exploitation has come to light in Dharwad district.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the minor girl, who is now pregnant, allegedly gave birth to the baby a few months ago and the police is probing whether the baby was sold while the parents claimed to have given the baby to a relative.

According to the complaint, a 15-year-old village girl was allegedly sexually abused by a youth in 2025, as a result of which she became pregnant and gave birth to a child at a private nursing home in Hubballi three months ago. The incident came to light after the girl got pregnant again and the accused youth allegedly sexually abused her again.

District Child Welfare Officer Prakash Kodliwad told reporters that the case came to light after Child Welfare Unit personnel went to the house of the minor girl to gather information about the incident. “After our staff came to know about another minor girl who gave birth to a baby, they inquired about it and after consulting the minor girl, she disclosed what happened. Based on the information, our staff lodged a complaint at the Old Hubballi police station against the accused youth, the parents who concealed the issue and the doctor who delivered the child. The minor girls are cousins ​​in both cases,” he said.

Meanwhile, Commissioner of Police N. Shashikumar said they were investigating whether the child had been sold. However, it was worrisome that minor girls were getting pregnant and widespread awareness should be created about the issue, he said.

Last week, the Hubballi City Police registered a case against the youth, the minor girl’s parents and the doctors who performed the delivery after medical complications brought the minor girl who gave birth to the KMCRI hospital and the police were alerted.
