Ankit Baliyan murder: Two main accused shot dead in encounter with UP police – what we know so far | Today’s news
The two main shooters in the murder case of Haryanvi singer-actor Ankit Baliyan were shot dead in an encounter with the Uttar Pradesh Police and the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (UP STF) in Shamli, news agency ANI reported.
Baliyan was fatally shot in Shamli district as he left a gym last Wednesday.
ADG Meerut Bhanu Bhaskar confirmed the incident and told ANI, “The victim was a singer named Ankit Baliyan… He was a well-known singer with many YouTube videos. He was working out in a fitness gym.”
“When he got out at around 6.55 pm, four unidentified individuals came in two vehicles and opened fire. He sustained gunshot injuries. Though policemen were present and he was immediately rushed to the Community Health Center (CHC), doctors could not save him,” Bhaskar said.
Referring to the incident, Superintendent of Police Shamli NP Singh said, “A 112 call was received. Information was received that one Ankit Balyan, hailing from Banti Khera, had come to the gym. As soon as he left the gym, he was shot dead by 3-4 men. We have sent the body to the mortuary. Police teams are working…”
Who killed Ankit Baliyan?
A viral social media post allegedly linked to the Gogi gang claimed the murder. The post claimed that Ankit had created a song with a similar theme to the killing of gangster Jitendra Gogi, who was shot dead inside the Rohini court.
Shamli SP NP Singh said on August 27 that the police were probing the post and working on a lead to find out if there was an old feud involving the Gogi gang and if it could be linked to Baliyan’s murder.
Speaking to ANI, Baliyan’s relatives claimed complete lack of information about the assailants after the artist was tragically shot dead outside a gymnasium in Shamli.
He said: “The police assured that action would be taken as soon as possible. We didn’t really know the details ourselves. We weren’t even at home. We still don’t know who it was or how it happened; we’re completely in the dark. We’ll accept whatever action the police take…”
Family appeal to Rahul Gandhi: “Lord, our hope is breaking”
The family of late singer Ankit Balyan has also sought Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s help in investigating the singer’s murder after the artiste was fatally shot in Shamli on Wednesday.
Ankit Balyana’s wife has expressed her disappointment at the lack of arrests in the ongoing investigation into the singer’s murder. Citing Rahul Gandhi’s prominence among the youth and his involvement in raising awareness on other public issues, Ankit’s wife Balyana urged him to visit West Uttar Pradesh and help ensure justice for the family.
Ankit’s wife Balyana told ANI, “The police are working hard but there is no result at the ground level. Five days have passed and no arrest has been made yet. This gives us the feeling that no action is being taken.”
“Sir, our hope is parting ways with this police administration and also with this government. So now I want to appeal to Rahul Gandhi ji. Sir, you are a great leader of this country. You have also raised the issue of education; Dharmendra Pradhan ji had to resign. Please also hear our plea. A child from our home has left us sir. Please raise this issue,” she said.
“Understand the helplessness of parents who lost their little son. Sisters lost a brother a day before Rakshabandhan. You also have a sister; you are also someone’s brother. Please understand our pain and raise this issue. Rahul Gandhi ji, now we have hope only from you. You will do something in this case,” Baliyan’s wife added.
She continued, “The country is listening to him and he has an identity among the youth. We have hope in you. The youth of this area is looking towards you, Rahul Gandhi ji. Come to West UP and work on this case. We need people like you. We have hope in you.”
Elder sister Ankit Balyan also made an emotional appeal to Rahul Gandhi to intervene and ensure that her brother’s killers are punished.
“Rahul Gandhi ji, I am Ankit’s elder sister. I request you that my brother’s killers be punished. So far the central government and the UP government have not done anything. My request to you is this: I lost my brother two to three days before Rakhi. Do something; you will come and see. This government is unable to do anything. You said you did something good for the poor when you went.” Ankit Baliyan’s sister.
