The Madras High Court ordered the META Platforms Inc and the FZ-LLC Telegram on Wednesday to remove all fake Facebook accounts and telegram channels that abused photos and videos choreographer Anita Ratnam and also used deep sound clips of her voice.
Senthilkucar Ramamoorthy justice has ordered both social media giants based in the United States and the United Arab Emirates to first download the 11 Falm Telegram Channels and three Facebook accounts that Mrs. Ratnam said in her.
The provisional order was handed over to a civil lawsuit filed by a UNESCO choreographer against a violation of her personality rights. Her advisor Mrs. Bharath told the court that his client was a choreographer, artist, producer, speaker, mentor, art businessman and pioneer Neo Bharatam, a unique dance style combining Bharatanatyam, Kathakali and Yoga.
In the age of 70, Bharatanatyam began to perform and has since been involved in countless activities related to various artistic forms. Mrs. Ratnam has established her own dance theater, curated various festivals, developed her own style of movement and contributed significantly to the world of theater art production and choreographies of great work, said Mr. Bharath.
He also stated that the plaintiff performed in more than 1,300 programs in 37 countries.
In such circumstances, in the last week of this year, she learned about abuse of her photos and videos in fake social media accounts. She immediately issued a notice of caution in newspapers 5th March 2025 and also filed a complaint about a cell for computer crime. Furthermore, it approached meta platforms that reduced more than 70 fake accounts that misused her photos, videos and voice.
Yet, since she continued to learn about the existence of many other such false social media accounts, Mrs. Ratnam has decided to give the current John Doe suit (a fictitious name used to submit a case against unknown individuals) about violating her personality rights. She was looking for restrictions on abuse of her personality/publicity for any commercial or personal profit.
