A woman faced her husband’s wrath for buying a dishwasher without permission. He broke many things in their house after an argument about the dishwasher. The incident occurred in Guangdong province in southern China. The video was posted online earlier in January.
It quickly went viral on Chinese social media. A woman bought a dishwasher without telling her husband. She explained that washing dishes in the winter was painful because the tap water was very cold. According to her, her husband never helps with the dishes.
The conflict began when a worker arrived at their rented apartment to install the machine. The husband demanded the cancellation of the order, saying that the family could not afford the additional costs of water and electricity. The woman refused, insisting that the dishwasher was affordable.

When she stopped the worker from leaving, the husband became extremely angry. He broke furniture and household items in the living room. The woman noticed the damage and later ran away from the house crying. She spent the night alone in a hotel.
Later, in another video, the woman described what happened.
“My husband said I pushed him but I didn’t. He was also irritated by my anger. Then he said I shouldn’t push him anymore. That made him extremely angry. In that rage he completely lost control and broke things in the house,” she says in the video.
“The dishwasher cost 1,519 yuan (approx ₹20,000) after discount. It can wash dishes, fruits and even pots. I felt it was very comfortable. A dishwasher is a thing that has been used for many years. So I thought it was good value for money. That’s why I bought it. But he still resisted it and did not agree at all,” he continues.

“When he broke things in the house, the assembly worker was still there. He kept telling the worker to leave. The worker said it was his job and he couldn’t just leave,” the woman says.
“I then told the worker that I would pay him and asked him not to install it yet. I then paid him all the fees including the visit fee and the installation fees,” she adds.
Reaction on social networks
The video received mixed comments. While some thought she should consider a divorce, others believed the husband was triggered by the difficult economic situation in China.
“Your husband is definitely wrong. He’s emotionally unstable and even breaks things in the living room; he’s not a good person. But considering your living environment and the fact that only one of you works and you’re in debt, is this dishwasher really necessary?” asked one user on Douyin where the video was uploaded.
“It’s not because you disobeyed him this time and got angry. The current economic climate is difficult; it’s really difficult to make money. To make more than 10,000 yuan ( ₹1.30 lakh) is not as easy as you think, and even for a family of four, 10,000 yuan is barely enough. You two should understand each other. This may just be the last straw that broke the camel’s back,” another user wrote.

Another user suggested: “You better think about what your husband did for you. Think about it and see if he loves you or if it was a choice he had no choice but to make because of you. Logically speaking, there are things he should have bought willingly. You are also your parents’ child. If they knew that the person you chose made your life full of hardships, they would be even more angry.”
To this the woman replied: “He loves me too, he even bought me an Apple iPhone 17. But I don’t understand why he wouldn’t buy me a dishwasher.”
Another user wrote: “Sister, don’t keep a husband like that. Why don’t you get a divorce? You’re so pretty, you can divorce him and marry whoever you want.”
“I don’t think it’s really about the dishwasher. You know, the conflict you just had was just a trigger. First, find out about his work situation, like if his company is planning layoffs,” chimed in another.
Clarification
The couple later released another video and read a statement to clarify the situation.
“There were several misunderstandings about what happened earlier. At that time, our communication was not properly processed and the whole background and sequence of events was not clearly explained. This led to some misinterpretations. We are truly sorry and sincerely apologize,” the woman said as she read the statement.
“We are just ordinary people who really love life. We fell in love freely and have been married for more than 10 years. Small frictions are inevitable in everyday life. In family life and domestic responsibilities, women often take on more, but this is often overlooked,” said the husband.
He also dismissed rumors that the family had debts of 200,000 yuan ( ₹26 million).
We are just ordinary people who sincerely love life.
First of all, my wife did not spend 200,000 yuan for medical treatment. Second, we do not have debts of 200,000 yuan. He also clarified that the family did not often eat at Haidilao, China’s largest restaurant chain. They take advantage of discounts and coupons whenever they go there.
“She also bought a mobile phone last year by herself with the money she earned through careful savings. She discussed it with me before buying the phone and we agreed on it together,” said the husband.
“Currently, all issues have been properly resolved and life has returned to normal. We sincerely thank everyone for their concern and understanding,” he added.
