
President Angola Joao Manuel Goncalves Lourenço will arrive in India for a state visit from 1 to 4 May at the invitation of President Murmu.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, this will be the first bilateral state visit to India’s head of state in 38 years and will also be the first visit to President Lourenço in India.
The visit will be held during the symbolic year for both nations, as India and Angola celebrate the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations in 2025.
On May 3, 2025, President Lourenço will be granted a ceremonial welcome to Rashtrapati Bhawan. He will meet President Murmo, who will host a state banquet in his honor. He will also have interviews at the delegation level with Prime Minister Narendra Modim, who are expected to host lunch for a guest dignitaries.
A number of memorandums on understanding (Mous) and bilateral agreements are expected during the visit. It is likely to focus on key areas such as energy cooperation, involvement of defense, trade and investment, capacity building and development partnerships.
On May 4, President Lourenço will participate in a business event in Nový Delhi, which aims to promote commercial ties and investment opportunities between the two countries. The executives and parties of India and Angola are expected to attend an event and explore potential cooperation in sectors such as oil and gas, infrastructure, agriculture and mining.
India and Angola share a warm and growing relationship, supported by robust energy partnership. In the years 2023–24, bilateral trade between the two countries was $ 4,192 billion. Both countries also closely cooperate in versatile forums, including mutual support in the UN.
Visit to President Lourenço will be an important step forward in bilateral relations, with both sides to expand and deepen strategic involvement in the coming years. The visit is expected to determine the land for a more dynamic partnership, reflecting shared priorities and aspirations of India and Angola.
