An Anganwadi teacher and her son were allegedly murdered by their family members over a land dispute at Tarimella village in Singanamala mandal of Anantapur district on Monday evening.

According to the police, nallappa of tarimella has two wives, lakshmi devi and fake. Lakshmi devi has two sons, omkar and jagjivan, while temperament has one son, Ambedkar Alias Chinna. After Nallappa’s death, land disputes arose between the families of both the wives.

Lakshmi Devi along with her sons went to Bengaluru while Yellamma stayed in Tarimella and worked as an anganwadi teacher. Five months ago, Lakshmi Devi’s family moved to Tarimella. Since then, the two families have been fighting for the land.

Police said that on Sunday evening, Omkar and Jagjivan went to Yellamma’s house to discuss a land dispute. Omkar and Jagjivan then allegedly attacked the mother-son duo, after which Chinna ran away from the house. When he fell down after running a few meters, Omkar and Jagjivan allegedly smashed his head with a boulder, killing him on the spot. Terrified, Yellamma hid in a neighbor’s house, but the brothers burst in and cut her throat. They allegedly chopped her head and created a ruckus in the neighborhood by openly flogging her, police said.

Superintendent of Police (SP) P. Jagadeesh, who visited the village on Tuesday and inspected the crime scene, said property disputes were the reason for the killing. He interacted with the villagers and asked about the differences between the two families.

Mr. Jagadeesh said that special teams have been formed to investigate the case and added that the accused would be arrested soon.
