Andhra Pradesh Waqf Board Chairman Abdul Aziz on Monday (January 19, 2026) reviewed and finalized the designs for the Shahi Masjid being built at an estimated cost of ₹15 crore on the premises of the historic Bara Shaheed Dargah in Nellore, in a meeting with municipal officials and engineering experts.
Speaking to the media on the occasion, he said that the construction of the project has become easier due to the special attention and priority shown by MA&UD Minister Ponguru Narayana and Nellore Rural MLA Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy. He further said that this mosque will be a special spiritual attraction not only for Nellore but also for the state.
“Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu has already sanctioned ₹5 crore and the remaining funds will be raised through the Waqf Board, Ministry of Minorities and various government schemes. The tender process will be completed soon and the construction work will begin on war footing,” said Mr. Abdul Aziz.
“We plan to provide all modern facilities for the comfort of thousands of devotees who participate in the annual ‘Rottela Panduga’ festival at Bara Shaheed Dargah,” he said, adding that key aspects of the construction of ‘APJ Abdul Kalam International School’ were also discussed during the meeting.
