The viva voce (moukhika pareeksha) for the recruitment of Vedic parajanadars (Vedic reciters) began on Monday as part of efforts to fill vacant religious posts in major temples across the state.
Andhra Pradesh Endowments Department Commissioner K. Ramachandra Mohan said more than 5,000 candidates had applied for 342 religious posts.
He added that the oral examinations for the candidates from multi-zone I— (Srikakulam to Krishna districts) are being conducted at Madapati Guest House in Vijayawada. To ensure impartiality, the examinations are conducted by scholars from other zones and monitored by two deputy commissioners from outside the zone.
Examinations for candidates from Multi Zone II (Guntur to Rayalaseema Districts) are held at Seethanagaram. The interview process will continue till June 16.
Mr. Ramachandra said the entire examination process is being videotaped to ensure transparency and fairness. Merit lists will be prepared on the basis of educational attainment, Vedic knowledge, work experience and performance in viva voce.
He added that three interview panels have been set up to ensure an impartial selection process. Candidates will not know in advance which committee will assess them.
The commissioner said that after the completion of the recruitment process of Vedic parajanadars, the department will take up filling of various religious vacancies including archaks (priests), paricharaks, bhajantris, temple cooks and other temple service posts in phases.
